Operation Overlord:
OSS and the Battle for France

for OSS Society

“…with Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of green and racial arrogancies” -Eisenhower

Almost everyone knows the story of June 6, 1944—the day the Nazi regime began to fall after the largest amphibious assault military history: D-Day.

But most don’t know the story of the Jedburghs and other OSS operatives that laid the groundwork for D-Day. These spies, Allied resistance fighters, and saboteurs had been operating in the shadows in France for months identifying weaknesses in Hilter’s Atlantic Wall, blowing up rail lines, and as Winston Churchill said, “setting Europe ablaze”. After the invasion these operative kept up their work until the fall of Nazi empire. The modern day CIA, Navy Seals, and other and Military Special Forces are the inheritors of these early “special operations.”

Pierce Mill Media was asked to cull through hundreds of hours of rarely seen archival footage to create a short film celebrating the rarely told story of these heroic individuals. Deploying a host of archival film techniques, working with acclaimed stage actor Ed Giro to narrate, and using a sweeping score and sound design, we were able to create a truly immersive filmic experience that puts the viewer into the action.
